Page 95 - Related Hadiths and Sunnah

_Page 95 of the Madinah Mushaf contains Surah An-Nisāʾ (4:102–105). These verses discuss:

1. Ṣalāt al-Khawf (Prayer of Fear) during military danger (4:102)

2. Remembering Allah after prayer and maintaining the prescribed prayers (4:103)

3. Perseverance in pursuing justice despite hardship (4:104)

4. The Prophet ﷺ judging people according to revelation and not defending the guilty (4:105)

Verse 4:102

"And when you are among them and lead them in prayer, let a group of them stand with you..."

The Prophet's Practice of Ṣalāt al-Khawf

Narrated by Sahl ibn Abi Hathmah:

The Prophet ﷺ led the Companions in the Prayer of Fear. One group stood with him while another group faced the enemy. After praying one rak'ah with the Prophet, the first group moved to guard duty and the second group came and prayed with him.

This is one of the clearest practical demonstrations of verse 4:102.

Another Narration

Narrated by Abdullah ibn Umar:

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ led one group in one rak'ah while another group remained facing the enemy. Then the groups exchanged places.

Lesson

The Prophet ﷺ applied the verse in several legitimate ways depending on battlefield conditions. Jurists therefore recognize multiple authentic forms of Ṣalāt al-Khawf.

Verse 4:103

"When you have completed the prayer, remember Allah standing, sitting, and lying on your sides..."

Hadith on Constant Remembrance

Narrated by Aisha bint Abi Bakr:

"The Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to remember Allah at all times."

Maintaining the Prescribed Prayer

The Prophet ﷺ emphasized that prayer remains obligatory at its appointed times.

Narrated by Abdullah ibn Masud:

I asked the Prophet ﷺ:

"Which deed is most beloved to Allah?"

He replied:

"Prayer at its proper time."

Verse 4:104

"Do not weaken in pursuing the enemy..."

Hadith on Patience and Endurance

Narrated by Abu Sa'id al-Khudri:

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said:

"No one is given a gift better and more comprehensive than patience."

Verse 4:105

"Indeed, We have revealed to you the Book in truth so that you may judge between people by what Allah has shown you; and do not be an advocate for the deceitful."

The Incident of Tu'mah ibn Ubayriq

Classical tafsir scholars report that these verses were revealed regarding Tu'mah ibn Ubayriq, who stole property and attempted to shift blame onto an innocent person.

Some members of his tribe came to defend him and asked the Prophet ﷺ to argue on his behalf.

Allah then revealed verses including:

"Do not be an advocate for the deceitful."

The Prophet's Principle of Judgment

Narrated by Umm Salamah:

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said:

"I am only a human being. People bring their disputes to me. Perhaps some of you are more eloquent in presenting their case than others, and I judge according to what I hear. So if I give someone something that rightfully belongs to his brother, let him not take it, for I am giving him a portion of the Fire."

Lesson

This hadith beautifully illustrates verse 105. The Prophet ﷺ judged according to the evidence presented, but warned that deception before a judge does not change the reality before Allah.
