99 Names of Allah

In Islamic tradition, the 99 Names of Allah (Al-Asma-ul-Husna — The Most Beautiful Names) represent the divine attributes of Allah, s.w.t.

The Sunnah Foundation

The core Hadith establishing the 99 Names is recorded in Sahih al-Bukhari (no. 2736) and Jami' at-Tirmidhi (Book of Supplications, 3507-3508). Jami means or refers to "comprehensive" hadith collection compiled by Imam Abu ʿIsa Muhammad at-Tirmidhi :

The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said: "Indeed, Allah has ninety-nine names, one hundred minus one; whoever counts/memorizes them (and acts upon them) will enter Paradise."

The Qur'an explicitly instructs believers to call upon Allah using His Names:

"And to Allah belong the best names, so invoke Him by them." — Surah Al-A'raf (7:180)
