Translation of the meaning by Sahih International.
On Page 62 of the Quran (Surah Ali 'Imran, Verses 92–100), the narrative transitions from the standard of true righteousness into a robust defense of Islamic monotheism, the historical legitimacy of the Ka'bah, and a strict warning to the early Muslim community against being divided by the provocation of the People of the Book.
The Prophetic Sunnah and classical Hadiths provide profound contextual depth to these specific verses.
"Never will you attain the good [reward] until you spend [in the way of Allah] from that which you love. And whatever you spend - indeed, Allah is Knowing of it." (Quran 3:92)

This is one of the most famous narrative attachments in Hadith literature, showcasing how the Prophet's companions immediately and literally implemented the verses revealed to him.
Sahih al-Bukhari (1461) & Sahih Muslim (998): Narrated by Anas bin Malik: Abu Talha was the wealthiest of the Ansar in Medina in terms of date-palm gardens, and the dearest of his property to him was the garden of Bayruha, which was facing the Prophet’s Mosque. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to go there and drink its sweet water. When this verse was revealed—"Never will you attain righteousness until you spend from that which you love"—Abu Talha went to the Prophet ﷺ and said: "O Messenger of Allah! Allah says in His Book [Verse 92]. No doubt, the dearest of my property to me is Bayruha, so I give it as a charity for Allah's sake. I expect its reward from Allah. So, spend it, O Messenger of Allah, wherever Allah shows you." The Prophet ﷺ became incredibly joyful and replied: "Bravo! That is a profitable property! That is a profitable property! I have heard what you have said, and I think it best that you distribute it among your own near relatives." Abu Talha followed his advice.

"All food was lawful to the Children of Israel except what Israel [Jacob] had made unlawful for himself before the Torah was revealed... Say, 'Allah has told the truth. So follow the religion of Abraham, inclining toward truth...'" (Quran 3:93, 95)

The Jewish tribes of Medina challenged the Prophet's claim that he was continuing the pure monotheistic legacy of Abraham. They argued: "How can you claim to be upon the path of Abraham when you eat camel meat and drink camel milk, which were forbidden by Abraham and the prophets?"
Musnad Ahmad (2483) & Sunan at-Tirmidhi (3117): Ibn Abbas narrated that a group of Jewish rabbis came to the Prophet ﷺ and said, "Tell us what food Israel (Jacob) forbade himself." The Prophet ﷺ replied: "He fell severely ill with sciatica for a long time, and he made a vow to Allah that if Allah cured him of his illness, he would forbid himself from his favorite food and drink. His favorite food was camel meat and his favorite drink was camel milk." The rabbis admitted: "By Allah, this is true." Allah revealed these verses to clarify that these restrictions were not part of Abraham's original, primordial faith, but were self-imposed by Jacob, proving the Quranic narrative historically and textually accurate over their objections. "Indeed, the first House [of worship] established for mankind was that at Bakkah - blessed and a guidance for the worlds. In it are clear signs [such as] the standing place of Abraham..." (Quran 3:96–97)

The Prophet ﷺ explicitly clarified the chronological layout of the Earth's primary sanctuaries, affirming the premise of Verse 96.
Sahih al-Bukhari (3366) & Sahih Muslim (520): Narrated by Abu Dharr al-Ghifari: I said, "O Messenger of Allah! Which mosque was built first on the earth?" He said, "Al-Masjid al-Haram (in Makkah)." I asked, "Which was built next?" He said, "Al-Masjid al-Aqsa (in Jerusalem)." I asked, "What was the period of time between the two?" He said, "Forty years."

Verse 97 explicitly highlights Maqam Ibrahim as a physical, miraculous sign within the sanctuary. The Sunnah formalized its status during the pilgrimage ritual.

Sahih Muslim (1218): In the lengthy, authoritative Hadith of Jabir bin Abdullah describing the Prophet’s Farewell Hajj: When the Prophet ﷺ completed his seven circuits of Tawaf around the Ka'bah, he proceeded to the Station of Abraham (Maqam Ibrahim) and recited the verse: "And take the station of Abraham as a place of prayer" (Quran 2:125). He then positioned the Maqam between himself and the Ka'bah and prayed two units of prayer (Raka'at).

Classical Seerah and Tafsir literature (such as Tafsir Ibn Kathir) record a major historical flashpoint in Medina that prompted the revelation of Verse 100.
An elderly, bitter non-Muslim man named Shas bin Qays passed by a gathering where the two major tribes of Medina—the Aws and the Khazraj—were sitting together in love and Islamic brotherhood. Before Islam, these two tribes had spent decades slaughtering each other in civil wars (such as the Battle of Bu'ath). Infuriated by their unity, Shas instructed a young man to sit with them and loudly recite the old war poetry that they used to write against one another before Islam. The trap worked: the companions became defensive, began boasting about their past tribal lineages, and eventually shouted, "We will fight you again tomorrow at the volcanic plains!" Word reached the Prophet ﷺ. He rushed to them immediately and yelled: "O Muslims! Allah! Allah! Are you acting upon the calls of the Days of Ignorance (Jahiliyyah) while I am still alive among you? After Allah has guided you to Islam, honored you, and cut off the ties of ignorance from you?" The companions realized it was a demonic trick from their enemies; they wept, embraced each other, and laid down their weapons. Allah then revealed Verse 100 as a permanent warning.
