Translation of the meaning by Sahih International.
Page 435 of the Quran spans Surah Fatir (The Originator), verses 4 through 11.
This page transitions from comforting the Prophet during times of intense social rejection to delivering severe warnings about Shaitan's deceptive nature. It then details the psychological mechanics of self-delusion, explains how to achieve true honor, and covers the biological lifecycle of humanity under divine omniscience.
Classical Islamic scholarship connects several foundational Hadiths and Sunnah applications to this specific section.
"O mankind, indeed the promise of Allah is truth, so let not the worldly life deceive you and let not the Chief Deceiver [Shaitan] deceive you about Allah. Indeed, Shaitan is an enemy to you; so take him as an enemy..."
These verses command believers to move past viewing Satan as an abstract concept and treat him as an active, military-grade adversary.
The Prophet used his everyday habits to teach his companions how to physically and mentally treat Shaitan as an active combatant.
Everyday Defenses: In Sahih al-Bukhari (Hadith 3276) and Sahih Muslim, the Prophet outlined structural habits to block Satan’s daily entry points: "When the call to prayer (Adhan) is made, Shaitan turns his back and flees... When any of you awakens from sleep, he should blow water out of his nose three times, because Shaitan spends the night in his nasal cleft."
The Devil's Eating Habits: In Sahih Muslim (Hadith 2020), Jabir ibn Abdullah narrated that the Prophet said: "Do not eat with your left hand, for Shaitan eats with his left hand." By altering standard, mindless physical behaviors (eating, sleeping, hygiene), the Sunnah translates the command of verse 6 ("take him as an enemy") into a practical, 24-hour reality.
"Is he, then, to whom the evil of his deed is made alluring so that he looks upon it as good [equal to one who is rightly guided]? For Allah leaves to stray whom He wills and guides whom He wills. So let not your soul expire in sorrow over them..."
This verse addresses the ultimate psychological trap: self-delusion. When a person repeats an evil deed long enough, their conscience becomes completely desensitized until they actually view their corruption as a virtue.
The Sunnah explains the physical and spiritual mechanics behind how a sin becomes "alluring" (zuyyina) over time.
The Staining Process: In Sunan At-Tirmidhi (Hadith 3334), Abu Hurairah narrated that the Prophet explained:
"When a believer commits a sin, a black spot is dotted on his heart. If he repents, stops, and seeks forgiveness, his heart is polished clean. But if he returns to the sin and increases it, the black spot grows until it completely covers his heart." This spiritual crust (Ar-Ran) is exactly what causes a person to see "the evil of his deed as good." Once the heart is entirely enveloped, its moral compass reverses.
"Whoever desires glory/honor [Al-Izzah] – then to Allah belongs all glory entirely. To Him do ascend the good words, and the righteous deed uplifts them..."
During the Meccan period, the pagan elites believed that honor came from tribal alliances, wealth, and tracking ancestral prestige. Allah shifts the entire paradigm: if you want unshakeable honor, you must plug directly into the source of all power.
Verse 10 notes that pure, good words (Al-Kalimut-Tayyib) physically travel upward to God, propelled by righteous actions.
The Angelic Escort: In the classical Tafsir of this verse (recorded by Ibn Abi Hatim and cited by Ibn Kathir), a prominent Hadith context notes: "When a servant speaks a good word—such as remembering Allah (Dhikr)—an angel takes it, places it under its wing, and ascends to heaven. It does not pass any group of angels without them seeking forgiveness for the speaker until it is presented before Allah."

The Daily Checklist for Honor: The Prophet taught his community that true nobility is achieved through humility before God rather than self-exaltation. In Sahih Muslim (Hadith 2588), he stated: "Charity does not decrease wealth, and no one pardons another except that Allah increases his honor/glory (Izzah), and no one humbles himself before Allah except that Allah elevates him."
"And Allah created you from dust, then from a sperm-drop; then He made you mates. And no female conceives nor does she give birth except with His knowledge. And no aged person is granted [additional] life nor is his lifespan lessened but that it is in a register. Indeed, that for Allah is easy."
Verse 11 establishes that every individual's precise biological lifespan is locked inside a master heavenly ledger (Kitab). However, several authentic Hadiths state that certain actions can actually extend a person's life.
Maintaining Family Ties: In Sahih al-Bukhari (Hadith 2067) and Sahih Muslim, Anas ibn Malik narrated that the Prophet stated:
"Whoever loves that his provision be expanded and that his lifespan be prolonged, let him maintain close ties with his womb-relatives (Silat al-Rahim)."
Classical commentators (such as Al-Qurtubi and Al-Bukhari himself) used the end of verse 11 to resolve this apparent paradox.
Scholarship outlines that the increase happens in one of two ways:
The Ledger's Blueprint: Allah’s absolute knowledge is comprehensive. The master ledger already accounts for the choice: “If this person cuts off his family, his life is 60 years; if he maintains his family, his life is 80 years.” The final result is already recorded in the book before their birth.
Barakah (Blessing) in Time: The extension is qualitative, not just quantitative. Allah blesses the person's time so deeply that they accomplish more in a short lifespan than an average person could achieve in a century, meaning their legacy and righteous output are effectively prolonged.
