Page 5 - Related Hadiths and Sunnah

In the standard Medina/King Fahd complex layout of the Qur’an, Page 5 spans Surah Al-Baqarah (Chapter 2), Verses 25 to 29.

While Page 4 closed with a severe warning of the Fire, Page 5 opens with joyful tidings for the believers (Verse 25), addresses the skeptics through the famous parable of the mosquito (Verses 26–27), and finishes with foundational theological proof-points of life, death, and cosmological design (Verses 28–29).

The Sunnah, authentic Hadith, and classical Tafsir narrations provide context, clarity, and explanations for these specific passages.

1. Glad Tidings and the Realities of Paradise (Verse 25)

"And give good tidings to those who believe and do righteous deeds that they will have gardens [in Paradise] under which rivers flow. Every time they are provided with a fruit therefrom, they will say, 'This is what we were provided with before.' And they are given it in resemblance. And they will have therein purified spouses, and they will abide therein eternally." (Qur'an 2:25)

Prophetic Descriptions of Paradise Fruits & Resemblance

The verse notes that the fruits of Paradise look like what people knew on Earth (or what they were served previously in Paradise) but possess vastly superior properties.

• The Hadith on Fruits: During the Eclipse Prayer (Salat al-Kusuf), the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ was seen reaching out into thin air. He later explained:
  "I saw Paradise and I reached out for a bunch of its grapes. Had I taken it, you would have eaten from it as long as this world remains." (Sahih al-Bukhari, Hadith 1052; Sahih Muslim, Hadith 904).

• The Hadith on "Purified Spouses" (Azwajun Mutahharatun): The Prophet's companions sought specific definitions for this purification. The Prophet ﷺ and his companions (such as Ibn Abbas and Ibn Mas'ud) explained through the Sunnah that this means the women of Paradise are totally purified from earthly impurities: menstruation, stool, urine, mucus, saliva, and bad character (Tafsir Ibn Kathir, referencing authentic companion traditions).

2. The Parable of the Mosquito (Verses 26–27)

"Indeed, Allah is not timid to present an example - that of a mosquito or what is smaller than it. And those who have believed know that it is the truth from their Lord. But as for those who disbelieve, they say, 'What did Allah intend by this as an example?'..." (Qur'an 2:26-27)

Context of Revelation (Asbab al-Nuzul)

When Allah revealed previous parables in the Qur'an utilizing small creatures—like the spider webs in Surah Al-Ankabut or the flies in Surah Al-Hajj—the hypocrites and disbelievers mocked the text, saying, "Allah is too grand to mention flies and spiders in His revelation." Verse 26 was directly sent down to counter this arrogance.

• The Prophetic Framework on Global Insignificance: To reinforce the spiritual lesson that even the smallest creation of Allah holds weight, the Prophet ﷺ used the exact same imagery to put the material world in perspective:
  "If the world were worth even the wing of a mosquito to Allah, He would not have given a disbeliever even a drink of water from it." (Sunan al-Tirmidhi, Hadith 2320; authenticated by Al-Albani).

3. The Cycles of Life and Death (Verse 28)

"How can you disbelieve in Allah when you were lifeless and He brought you to life; then He will cause you to die, then He will bring you [back] to life, and then to Him you will be returned?" (Qur'an 2:28)

The Prophetic Mirror of Human Creation

This verse outlines four distinct stages: non-existence/lifelessness (in the loins of the fathers/womb), the first life (earthly existence), the first death (the grave), and the second life (the Resurrection).

• The Hadith: The Prophet ﷺ mapped out this exact physical transition from lifelessness to life in the womb:
  "The creation of each one of you is gathered in the womb of his mother for forty days as a drop of fluid (Nutfah), then he becomes a clot of thick blood (Alaqah) for a similar period, then a piece of flesh (Mudghah) for a similar period. Then Allah sends an angel who is ordered to breathe the soul into him..." (Sahih al-Bukhari, Hadith 3208; Sahih Muslim, Hadith 2643).

• This explicitly unpacks the state of "when you were lifeless and He brought you to life."

4. The Seven Heavens and Creation (Verse 29)

"It is He who created for you all of that which is on the earth. Then He directed Himself to the heaven, [His being above all creation], and made them seven heavens, and He is Knowing of all things." (Qur'an 2:29)

The Sunnah Documenting the Seven Heavens

The physical reality of the "seven heavens" (Samawati Sab'a) mentioned in this verse is verified and expanded upon heavily during the Prophet's ﷺ miraculous Night Journey and Ascension (Al-Isra' wal-Mi'raj).

• The Hadith: In the expansive narrations detailing the journey, the Prophet ﷺ describes traveling through each individual layer of these seven cosmic structural boundaries:
  "...Gabriel then ascended with me to the first heaven... then we ascended to the second heaven... then to the third, fourth, fifth, sixth, and seventh heaven..." meeting a different Prophet at every specific gateway layer before reaching the ultimate boundary of Sidrat al-Muntaha. (Sahih al-Bukhari, Hadith 3207; Sahih Muslim, Hadith 162).
