Page 552 of the Quran contains Surah As-Saf (Chapter 61, "The Ranks"), spanning verses 6 through 14.
This section contains some of the most profound theological declarations in the Quran. It details Prophet Jesus's explicit prophecy of the coming of a Messenger named Ahmad (Muhammad), warns against trying to "extinguish Allah's light," outlines a "spiritual transaction" (Tijarah) that guarantees salvation, and concludes with a call to match the loyalty of Jesus's disciples by becoming true helpers (Ansar) of God.
The Sunnah and books of authentic Hadith expand significantly on these core themes.
"And [remember] when Jesus, the son of Mary, said, 'O Children of Israel, indeed I am the messenger of Allah to you confirming what came before me of the Torah and bringing good tidings of a messenger to come after me, whose name is Ahmad.'..." (Quran 61:6)
The name Ahmad is a highly specific, linguistically pure variation of Muhammad (both meaning "The Praised One"). The Prophet ﷺ explicitly tied his name to this verse in several authentic traditions.
Jubayr ibn Mut'im reported that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "I have several names. I am Muhammad, and I am Ahmad, and I am Al-Mahi (the obliterator) through whom Allah obliterates disbelief, and I am Al-Hashir (the gatherer) at whose feet mankind will be gathered, and I am Al-Aqib (the final prophet)."

When the Companions asked the Prophet ﷺ to describe his own origin story, he famously linked himself directly back to Abraham's prayer and Jesus's glad tidings in Surah As-Saf:
The Prophet ﷺ said: "I am the answer to the prayer of my father Abraham, the glad tidings brought by Jesus, and the vision of my mother when she gave birth to me and saw a light illuminating the castles of Sham (Syria)."

"They want to extinguish the light of Allah with their mouths, but Allah will perfect His light, although the disbelievers dislike it. It is He who sent His Messenger with guidance and the religion of truth to manifest it over all religion..." (Quran 61:8-9)
When verses 8 and 9 were revealed, Islam was still a minor regional faith constantly under threat. The Prophet ﷺ reinforced the absolute guarantee that this "light" would spread to every corner of the earth through explicit prophecies:
Thawban reported that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "Indeed, Allah drew the ends of the earth together for me, and I saw its eastern and western lands. And indeed, the dominion of my Ummah (community) will reach as far as what was drawn together for me."

"O you who have believed, shall I guide you to a transaction (commerce) that will save you from a painful punishment? [It is that] you believe in Allah and His Messenger and strive in the cause of Allah with your wealth and your lives..." (Quran 61:10-11)
Verse 12 promises forgiveness and beautiful dwellings in the Gardens of Eternity (Adn). Verse 13 adds an immediate, earthly bonus: "victory from Allah and an imminent conquest."
The Sunnah closely aligns this "transaction" with a specific mentality: a believer invests their fleeting worldly life and wealth into something permanent. The Prophet ﷺ described the high return on investment for those who fulfill this contract:
The Prophet ﷺ said: "To guard the borders for one day and night in the path of Allah is better than fasting a whole month and standing in prayer its nights. And if he dies while doing so, his good deeds which he used to do will go on increasing, his sustenance will be brought to him from Paradise, and he will be safe from the trial of the grave."

"O you who have believed, be supporters (helpers) of Allah, as when Jesus, the son of Mary, said to the disciples, 'Who are my supporters for Allah?' The disciples said, 'We are supporters of Allah.'..." (Quran 61:14)
To fulfill this verse practically, the Prophet ﷺ actively sought people who would take up the mantle of Jesus's disciples (Hawariyyun). During the difficult years in Mecca when the Quraysh blocked his message, he used to preach during the Hajj seasons, mirroring Jesus’s exact call.
The Prophet ﷺ would ask the visiting tribes: "Who will give me protective shelter? Who will support me in conveying the Message of my Lord? For indeed, the Quraysh have prevented me from conveying the Message of my Lord."

This call was famously answered by the tribes of Al-Aws and Al-Khazraj from the city of Yathrib. Because they fulfilled the command of Verse 14, Allah and His Messenger permanently honored them with the official title Al-Ansar (The Helpers/Supporters)—a title that became an eternal badge of honor in Islamic history.
The Prophet ﷺ also used the exact term mentioned in this verse (Hawari) to honor his close companion, Az-Zubayr ibn al-Awwam, during a critical defensive moment at the Battle of the Trench:
The Messenger of Allah ﷺ called for a volunteer to scout enemy positions, and Az-Zubayr stepped forward. He called a second time, and Az-Zubayr stepped forward again. The Prophet ﷺ then declared: "Every Prophet has a disciple (Hawari), and my disciple is Az-Zubayr."
