Surah Ar-Rahman (Chapter 55), Verses 19 through 41 spans the entirety of page 532 of the standard Madinah mushaf (Quran). This section shifts from earthly and earthly-aquatic signs—such as the famous barrier between the two seas—to the absolute transience of worldly life, concluding with a terrifyingly graphic depiction of how criminals will be recognized and seized on the Day of Judgment.
The authentic Hadiths and prophetic traditions linked to this specific page explain the physical phenomena described and provide a sobering window into the events of the afterlife.
“He released the two seas, meeting [side by side]; Between them is a barrier [so] neither of them transgresses... From both of them emerge pearls and coral.”
The Sunnah heavily emphasizes the immense value and spiritual purity of water bodies, noting that Allah placed specific creations within them as livelihood for mankind.
Sunnah Link on Marine Purity: When the companions traveled by sea and worried about their ablution water, the Prophet anchored their understanding of the sea's divine design. In Sunan an-Nasa'i, Abu Hurairah narrated that a man asked the Messenger of Allah: "O Messenger of Allah, we travel by sea and carry a small amount of water with us. If we use it for ablution, we will go thirsty. Can we perform ablution with seawater?" The Prophet replied:
“Its water is pure (a purifier) and its dead animals are lawful to eat.” (Sunan an-Nasa'i, Book 1, Hadith 59; graded Sahih).
“Everyone upon the earth will perish, and there will remain the Face of your Lord, Owner of Majesty and Honor.”
These verses establish the foundational reality of Al-Fana (the complete annihilation of physical matter) prior to the Resurrection. The Sunnah provides explicit details on how the final moments of creation will unfold when everything except Allah ceases to exist.
Abdullah ibn Umar narrated that the Messenger of Allah described how Allah will assert His absolute sovereignty once Verse 26 is fulfilled:
“On the Day of Resurrection, Allah will fold the heavens and take them in His right hand, then He will say: 'I am the King! Where are the tyrants? Where are the arrogant ones?' Then He will fold the earths with His left hand and say: 'I am the King! Where are the tyrants? Where are the arrogant ones?'” (Sahih al-Bukhari, Book 97, Hadith 7412; Sahih Muslim, Book 52, Hadith 13).
“So on that Day no human or jinn will be asked about his sin... The criminals will be known by their marks, and they will be seized by the forelocks and the feet.”
This concluding portion of page 532 details the terrifying mechanics of accountability. The Sunnah clarifies the apparent paradox of Verse 39 (that they will not be "asked") by detailing how physical anatomy will visually expose an individual's spiritual history.
The "marks" (sima) referenced in Verse 41 refer to the striking physical colors of the faces on that Day—the righteous will beam with light, while the faces of criminals will be dark and distorted. Furthermore, the Prophet noted that a person's physical limbs will speak, overriding their tongues.
Anas ibn Malik reported: "We were with the Messenger of Allah when he smiled and asked, 'Do you know why I am smiling?' We said, 'Allah and His Messenger know best.' He said, 'Because of the talk that a servant will have with his Lord.' He will say: 'O my Lord, did You not guarantee me protection against injustice?' Allah will say: 'Yes.' The servant will say: 'I do not allow any witness against myself except from my own self.' Allah will say: 'Today, your own self is sufficient as a witness against you...' Then a seal will be set upon his mouth, and it will be said to his limbs: 'Speak!' and they will speak of his deeds...” (Sahih Muslim, Book 55, Hadith 16).
In sharp contrast to the criminals being dragged by their forelocks, the Sunnah mentions the beautiful mark given to the followers of Muhammad on that day.
Abu Hurairah narrated that the Prophet said: "My people will be called on the Day of Resurrection with bright, radiant faces and limbs from the traces of Wudu (ablution). Whoever among you can increase the area of his radiance should do so." (Sahih al-Bukhari, Book 4, Hadith 136).
