Page 307 of the Quran covers Surah Maryam, verses 26 through 38. This page features the dramatic climax of Maryam's return to her community with the infant Isa (Jesus). Confronted with intense accusations of unchastity, she relies on her vow of silence and points to her baby. In a stunning miracle, the infant Isa speaks from the cradle to declare his prophethood, his servitude to God, and his core commandments. The page concludes with a stern theological correction regarding the true nature of Jesus, rejecting the notion that God has taken a son.
The Hadith and Sunnah literature provide essential linguistic context, direct prophetic commentary on Maryam's family lineage, and the cosmic timeline of infants speaking in the cradle.
When Maryam returns with the baby, her people exclaim in verse 28: "O sister of Aaron, your father was not a man of evil, nor was your mother unchaste."
This verse historically caused confusion among early Christian communities who encountered the Muslims, as they noted that Aaron (the brother of Moses) lived centuries before Mary (the mother of Jesus). The Sunnah contains a direct, explicit record of the Prophet Muhammad clearing up this exact geographical and historical misunderstanding.
Mughirah ibn Shu'bah narrated: "When I came to Najran (a Christian region), they asked me: 'You people recite this verse: O sister of Aaron, whereas Moses was born long before Jesus.* When I returned to the Messenger of Allah, I asked him about this. He said: 'They used to name their children after the names of the prophets and righteous people who had passed away before them.'" — Sahih Muslim (Hadith 2135)
The Prophet’s explanation establishes that the phrase "sister of Aaron" was an honorific lineage title or a literal naming convention reflecting her noble, priestly ancestry, rather than a chronological error (Ibn Kathir, 2003).
Verses 29 and 30 state: "So she pointed to him. They said, 'How can we speak to one who is in the cradle a child?' [Jesus] said, 'Indeed, I am the servant of Allah. He has given me the Scripture and made me a prophet.'"
The Sunnah frames this event within a highly exclusive, historic timeline of miracles, categorizing the infant Jesus among a tiny handful of infants granted speech by God.
Abu Hurayrah narrated that the Prophet Muhammad said: "None spoke in the cradle except three: Jesus, and there was a man from the children of Israel called Jurayj [whose innocence was proven by a speaking infant]... and a third child [who spoke to comfort his mother during a trial]." — Sahih al-Bukhari (Hadith 3436) & Sahih Muslim (Hadith 2550)
The text transitions into verses 34 and 35: "That is Jesus, the son of Mary - the word of truth about which they are in dispute. It is not [befitting] for Allah to take a son; exalted is He!"
The Sunnah places massive spiritual weight on accepting this specific Quranic framing of Jesus—recognizing him strictly as a noble prophet and a created word of God, rather than a divine entity.
Ubadah ibn al-Samit narrated that the Prophet said: "Whoever testifies that there is no true god but Allah alone without partners, and that Muhammad is His servant and Messenger, and that Jesus is the servant of Allah, His Messenger, and His Word which He bestowed upon Mary and a spirit created by Him, and that Paradise is true and Hell is true—Allah will admit him into Paradise through any of its eight gates he wishes." — Sahih al-Bukhari (Hadith 3435) & Sahih Muslim (Hadith 28)
The bottom of page 307 shifts to a stark warning about the Day of Judgment: "And warn them, [O Muhammad], of the Day of Regret (Yawm al-Hasrah) when the matter will be concluded; and [yet], they are in [a state of] heedlessness and they do not believe" (Verse 39, directly building off the promptings of verse 38).
The Sunnah gives a vivid, unforgettable description of how this literal "regret" will physically manifest for mankind when death itself is brought forth.
Abu Sa'id al-Khudri reported that the Messenger of Allah said: "Death will be brought in the form of a white-and-black ram on the Day of Resurrection... It will be slaughtered between Paradise and Hell. Then it will be said: 'O people of Paradise, eternity and no more death! O people of Hell, eternity and no more death!' " The Prophet then recited: "And warn them of the Day of Regret when the matter will be concluded..." (19:39). — Sahih al-Bukhari (Hadith 4730) & Sahih Muslim (Hadith 2849)
